THE PLAYERS
MARTIN SMITH
Martin Smith was an Exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and a scholarship winner at the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied violin and conducting. He was a member of the Duke String Quartet, and he is also a long-standing member of both Primavera and the Ellerdale Trio.
For many years Martin has been a member of the London Mozart Players, where in addition to playing he serves as one of the Directors of the orchestra; he also leads New London Sinfonia and Orchestra Nova and has appeared widely as a guest leader and guest principal. As a soloist, he has appeared in the UK, France, Germany, Holland and the United States.
Martin is also active as a conductor. He has led orchestral workshops for London Mozart Players and for ESTA. He has been conductor and artistic director of Enfield Chamber Orchestra since 2008 and of the Richmond Orchestra since 2016, and is in increasing demand as a guest conductor.

SUZANNE LOZE
Suzanne Loze started learning the violin with her grandfather before she went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music with Erica Klemperer. From 1988-1999 she was Co-principal Second Violin of the Bournemouth Sinfonietta.
Since then she has played with, amongst others, the Royal Philharmonic, Philharmonia, City of London Sinfonia, English National Opera and the CBSO.
Suzanne is a member of Britten Sinfonia and has been Leader of the Essex Chamber Orchestra since 2006. She has appeared as a soloist with the orchestra, performing Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, and also Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with Morgan Goff on solo viola.
She teaches at both Brentwood and Great Baddow High school as well as teaching privately.
Suzanne’s violin is a very fine copy of a Gagliano by George Wulme Hudson, Walthamstow, c.1930. Her grandfather bought it from the maker.
MORGAN GOFF
Morgan Goff is based in London, working extensively as a session, chamber and solo violist, alongside a busy freelance career in the West End. He was the violist of the Kreutzer Quartet for ten years and the Solaris Quartet for six years.
Morgan now has a busy performing and recording schedule with numerous chamber ensembles in London, including the Locrian Ensemble, the Gavin Bryars Ensemble, the Fiorini Trio, Primavera and the London Sinfonietta. As a soloist and violist, he has recorded for labels such as Hyperion, Meridian, Naxos NMC, Toccata Classics, Metier, Guild, Dutton Epoch, BMS and ABC Classics.
He worked closely with the late pianist Raphael Terroni, with whom he performed and recorded much of the English viola repertoire.
His viola was made by Daniel Parker, London, 1715.
DAVID BURROWES
David Burrowes sang as a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral. Later, he was a choral scholar at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, reading music. He has played as guest Principal Cello with the London Mozart Players and City of London Sinfonia, as well as performing extensively with the Philharmonia and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. From 1998-2020, he held the post of Principal Cello in the London production of Phantom of the Opera. He is currently Principal Cello of English Classical Players and Southern Pro Musica.
Alongside his work with Cirrus, he is a longstanding member of Primavera, appearing on a considerable number of chamber recordings with both groups. Amongst his solo recording credits is a CD of the Brahms Double Concerto with violinist Rolf Wilson.
David is much in demand as a teacher. He holds the post of Associate Lecturer in Cello at the University of Surrey. From 2010-17 he was the Course Director of Pro Corda’s annual Cello Course.
David plays on a cello made by Thomas Kennedy in London in 1801.
